expand/collapse Where Are Our Leaders When We Need Them?
by Cenk Uygur
The Democrats gave into ALL of the demands of the most unpopular president of all time. And where were our so-called Democratic leaders?

I understand there are a number of people on the campaign stump claiming they are going to be wonderful leaders. Really? What have they led on? When have they ever defeated Bush? Did I mention their opponent is the most unpopular president in American history?

expand/collapse The Economic Consequences of Mr. Bush
by Joseph Stiglitz
When we look back someday at the catastrophe that was the Bush administration, we will think of many things: the tragedy of the Iraq war, the shame of Guantánamo and Abu Ghraib, the erosion of civil liberties. The damage done to the American economy does not make front-page headlines every day, but the repercussions will be felt beyond the lifetime of anyone reading this page.

"Being a president is a lot like being a thousand-dollar-a-night call girl, Charlie," he said. "Experience matters."

expand/collapse Huckabee Christianity
by Nick Paccione
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee caused quite a hullabaloo with his statements about AIDS, homosexuals and morality. His candidacy is wonderfully illuminating as to why we shouldn't elect anyone who is openly religious. It also sheds light on the bigger picture as to how Christian fanatics are actually control freaks and how their power grab is destroying Democracy.

It's clear that Christian religious fanatics want their way in regards to religion and public life. They are determined to impose their views on all Americans. They constantly cry that they are the victims of discrimination when in fact they are the relentless discriminators.

expand/collapse The Preacher in Chief?
Do Republican candidates' loyalties lie with the Constitution or with fundamentalist Christianity?
by Cheri DelBrocco
As we all know, the president of the United States is elected by and swears to serve all citizens of this nation by protecting and defending the Constitution, not the Bible or any other religious text. America — founded by men who in some instances proclaimed Jesus as their God — was created to assure the freedoms of religion and conscience without regard to an individual's personal beliefs, creed, or worship practices.

The Republican Party appears to have abandoned any commitment to this tenet of the Constitution and is positioned to nominate a preacher in chief, whose first loyalty will be to the dogmas of Christian fundamentalism.
