Now What?
By David SwansonPerhaps more and more people will recognize that it is a lie that Congress must pass a bill to end the occupation of Iraq. The occupation can be ended with an announcement by Congressional leaders that there will be no more funding. Any proposal to fund it can be blocked by 41 senators. Bush has plenty of money for withdrawal and could be given more for that exclusive purpose. When your television tells you the Democrats need 60 or 67 senators to end the occupation, your television is lying to you.
Shifting Targets
The Administration’s plan for Iran
by Seymour HershIn a series of public statements in recent months, President Bush and members of his Administration have redefined the war in Iraq, to an increasing degree, as a strategic battle between the United States and Iran.
Hillary's a Fraud
Democrats Were Charged To End A War, Not Start One
by Mike GravelJoe Lieberman wrote the resolution authorizing the invasion of Iraq that was passed with Democratic support on October 11, 2002. Lieberman’s new resolution setting up a Bush-Cheney invasion of Iran passed by 76 to 22 with Democratic backing on September 26, 2007. These are two dates that will live in infamy in the 21st century. Led by Senator Clinton, it was another sad day for the Senate and for Senate Democrats, who were elected to the majority in November in order to end a war, not start a new one.
Free Speech Ain’t Free
Oh, Wait a Minute. Yeah, It Is.
by Will DurstAfter all the brouhaha in New York this week, this seems like a good time to have us a little chat about free speech. Not restricted free speech. Not partial free speech. Not pseudo-, semi-, counterfeit, limited free speech. Not free speech on Wednesdays between 2 and 3 p.m. EDT. Not free speech zones and not free speech reserved for the people we like and kept from the ones we don’t. No, my friends, I’m talking about your total, unfettered, full-throated, in your face, front row death metal rock concert, spitting in the wind, 24/7, every square inch of your big white furry butt, gushing like runoff from a rain gutter off a cantilevered roof during a force five hurricane in the tropics free speech. |

The cover story of the next issue of American Conservative magazine will be about General Petraeus, and is entitled:
Psycophant Savior. Waddaya' bet that all those anti-free speech hypocrites in Congress who voted to condemn MoveOn.org for its ad about Petraeus, won't say jack shit about this?
